Oklahoma Laborfest 2010 Information



Oklahoma Laborfest 2010, a public celebration of Oklahoma’s working class culture and labor history, will be held in the Plaza District at NW 16th and Indiana Avenue in Oklahoma City Thursday, August 26th through Saturday, August 28th.

The Plaza District is an historic neighborhood commercial district rich in Oklahoma City's local cultural flavor. Located on NW 16th between Classen Blvd. and Penn Ave, the Plaza District is home to the Lyric Theatre, art galleries, vintage resale stores, retail shops, restaurants and bars, a salon, a tattoo parlor, and other creative services. Oklahoma Laborfest 2010 will culminate with the Saturday evening performance of “Oklahoma Speaks” from 7:00 pm – 10 pm in the Lyric Theatre.

“Oklahoma Speaks” will include dramatic readings of selected historical texts from Oklahoma’s labor and civil rights movement as well as musical performances of songs connected to these movements. Mary Catherine Reynolds, Louise Goldberg, and the Red Dirt Rangers will be the featured musical guests for this event. Readers will include Stewart Acuff, Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, Davis Joyce, and other friends of labor.
